update the update agent manually and reboot. If I can't get my system to stabilize I'm going to have to re-install my OS anyways so I am tempted to try the DOS method. Not counting waiting for 4 days as solution I even want to try. I don't really have a plan to make one.
I never make comments on blogs. You may want to try carefully following the guide once more. Problem fixed after first step. Several reboots involved.
