Microsoft needs to fix their update. Terrible. The system would freeze occasionally, so that some controls simply were not functioning anymore. Note: You may have multiple SATA interfaces on your MB that are run by different controllers. It hooks into Kernel and when you shut down machine, it helps release Profile info which sometimes aids in shutting down a machine. I have experienced the freezing screen problems and I'm much worry about. From there (after you get the strange looking desktop) RESTART as you would do normally. IS HELL !!! Check This Out You can stop that issue all together by using fstab to force unmount your NTFS drive/partition on boot: just open a terminal, type: sudo pico /etc/fstab if there is data already

You could also run the disk checker. Many have tried the clean boot with no positive result, the System Maintenance Troubleshooter hasn't been tried as far as I remember. EDIT: Wow something completely rage - inducing just happened. It became really slow and menus took massive time to appear after I opened them.
